Abstract: The frequent occurrence of vertebrogenic cervical syndromes and theoften considerable differences in their assessment and treatmentprompted a renewed discussion of diagnosis and conservative therapy,with particular reference to the neurophysiological and functionalpathological angles. This applies, in particular, to the so-calledfunctional disturbances, and hence the article focusses especially onthese. A system is described and argued which is specifically orientedtowards clinical syndromes. While pointing to the therapy of thefunctional cervical syndromes and of the radicular syndrome, themanifold conservative possibilities, including their mechanisms ofaction, are outlined.
