Journal/Book: Zeitschrift für Physiotherapy. 1983; 35 (3): 159-165.

Abstract: 194 patients with acute lumbalgia (33 %) or lumboischialgia (66 %) with an average age of 4.3 years were subdivided according to the random principle into two comparative treatment groups in an outpatient department. 96 patients of the first group, tended by means of the usual medicamentous-physiotherapeutic treatment, were unable to work for altogether 1,847 days (on an average 19.3 days per patient) and needed s medicainentous-physiotherapeutic expenditure of about 30,000.- M. 98 patients of the second group which statistically not essentially differs from the first group were mainly treated by manual therapy (90%) in combination with neural therapy (80 %) and additionally by acupuncture (61%). They were unable to work for altogether 110 days (on an average 1.1 day per patient), the medicamentous expenditure was about 280.- M. As emphasized also by other authors, this investigation proves the superiority of the combined reflexotherapy in functional vertebragenic reflex syndromes in the lumbosacral region. Therefore, these forms of treatment should be paid more attention, the establishment of reflexotherapeutic consultations is to be recommended.
