The limits of Music Therapy

Abstract: Taking up N. LINKE's "Attempts to delimitate music education and music therapy" (Musikther. Umschau, 1,....) the author gives his own delimitation assessment of the fields of music education,pedagogic music therapy and music therapy. Music in social pedagogy comes under fresh scrutiny particularly in its important role in the training of social padagogues. The author's discussion culminates - in the interests of determining the position of music therapy - on the one hand in the differentiation of functional and intentional music therapy procedures and situations, on the other hand in the call for "music therapy as an intentional act" to be undertaken only by trained specialist.
