Abstract: The author, a professional musician, relates how he uses psychoanalytic techniques to help music students feel more comfortable about mistakes and corrections and about the frustration of learning. Students are encouraged to express and accept their feelings about the lessons. The author has also found that he can meet the needs of certain students by composing music for them.
