Reflections on Private Practice |
Abstract: In this paper the author reflects on experiences in private practice and in a psychiatric hospital over thirteen years. In hospital the support and multi-disciplinary experience of the team and opportunity of working with very interesting but deeply damaged patients is contrasted with general apathy and lack of financial and status value of this pioneer therapy which leads to burnout in those without personal support. In private practice the value of working in one's own atmosphere with sustaining infra-structure, the opportunity of seeing clients of greater ability and less damaged is contrasted with lack of a team for mutual exchange and support. Examples of cases are interwoven into the text. This Paper can be purchased from the BSMT. Price ú3.
