The Community and Music Therapy as a Mental Health Service |
Abstract: The paper describes how a programme of clinical music therapy is enhanced and broadened through musical activities allied to the therapeutic concepts of the music therapy in charge provided by diverse members of the community at large. The setting is a psychiatric hospital which houses long-stay patients as well as offering short term treatment. Some former patients are shown to continue using music as a therapy, either helping others or improving their own skills. Staff contributions are described in an overview of the integration achieved with all its importance for mental health. This paper can be purchased from the BSMT. Price ú3.
