Abstract: This paper establishes the fact that music is a phenomena of human consciousness that may under certain conditions arise from sounds produced by musicians. On the basis of Metzger's model of the body-and-soul-problem, a solution is proposed to explain the varying effects of a piece of music on individuals. This is followed by discussion of the meaning of the terms "true" and "immortal" as applied to music.
