In search of pure perception: An attempt to apply Merleau-Ponty's concepts of sense experiences to psychoanalytically oriented movement therapy |
Journal/Book: Arts in Psychotherapy. 1981; 8: 201-205.
Abstract: Presents definitions of perception (focusing on M. Merleau-Ponty's (1978) concepts of sense experiences), attempts to add another perspective of perception to those defined, and suggests a contribution by movement therapy to perception. Dance-movement therapy is discussed, and a description of a workshop sequence is presented. It is concluded that if one can "rattle" on the basic arrangement of sensory groupings with which people construct their world, another sensory experience takes place that brings forth new perceptions of the world within the individual who allows him/herself to be taken over temporarily by an alien way of sensing.
