Abstract: The prerequisites for training to be a music therapist include not only good theoretical and practical knowledge and the abilitiy to play various musical instruments, but also ability to communicate and flexibility. During training knowledgea, accomplishments and ability are focussed onto music therapeutic practice, basic medical and psychological education is given and differentiated methodological basics for the treatment a wide spectrum of complaints in children and adults offered. Rhythmical-musical training, "Rhythmics" for short, has long been an integrated part of the training of music therapists at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst (College of Music and Drama) in Vienna.
