Musical Psychodrama |
Journal/Book: Musiktherapeutische Umschau. 1981; 2: STUTTGART. G. Fischer Verlag. 83-91.
Abstract: The author discusses the theory and practice of "musical psychodrama", a new direction in therapy that makes use of the full range of possibilities for music therapy within the context of fully realised psychodrama. In musical psychodrama the words and actions used to assist and stimulate the protagonist are reinforced (i) by the psychodramatic "double" employing additional sound effects; (ii) by the musical improvisation ensemble, whose function is to match and influence by musical and extramusical means the changing feelings of the protagonist. The necessity for improvised music in preference to programmatic music in the psychodramatic context is stressed. Examples of clinical experiences with musical psychodrama are given, and its potential in the field of psychodramatic dream exploration is illustrated.
