Abstract: Fifty-five undergraduates rated three music selections on a like-dislike scale and engaged in a behavioral preference assessment. Data consisted of the number of seconds subjects listened to each of three simultaneously available music selections during a six-minute time period. Correlations between rating scale responses and listening time responses were r=.58 for "Ein feste Burg," r=.59 for "Ain't no use," and r=.09 for "If you could read my mind." Definitions are given for common terms relating to the study of music attitude, and methodological suggestions are presented for attitude measurement.
