The integration of psychoanalytical and neurophysiological approaches into an art therapy framework for the treatment of children with learning disabilities |
Journal/Book: Pratt Institute Creative Arts Therapy Review. 1980; 1: 31-36.
Abstract: Attempts to develop a framework for the treatment of children with learning disabilities (LD) through an integration of psychoanalytic theories of ego development, neurophysiological views of brain activity, and recent research on cognition affected by creative activities. Included in this approach is a brief exploration of the definitions of LD, right/left hemisphere brain activity in respect to the LD child, and learning as a function of ego development. The case of a 14-yr-old LD boy is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of an art therapy approach. (12 ref)
