(A study of the relationship between basic mood and experience of music from a clinical music/psychological aspect.)

Abstract: Investigated to what extent the assessment of music is influenced by the basic mood (hypomanic vs depressive) of the listener. Distinct differences became apparent on all 4 dimensions extracted from a polarity list, independently of the structural nature of the piece of music assessed. This result is discussed primarily with regard to the necessity of making the construct "experience of music" empirically accessible to nonaesthetic lines of inquiry (e.g., in music therapy).
