Abstract: Reports an attempt to determine the extent to which music therapy faculty expectations of the skills that a therapist should have when entering the profession are actually those that they do have; and if so, are these skills the ones taught while the therapists are in school. Functional music skills were rated the highest by clinicians, educators, and interns; knowledge of clinical research and theoretical literature were viewed as less important. The authors feel that the literature of music therapy does not reflect the knowledge that should be emphasized, and it is therefore often not taught.
