Child at the gate: Individual music therapy with a schizophrenic woman |
Journal/Book: Art Psychotherapy. 1979; 6: 77-83.
Abstract: Presents a case study of a 27-yr-old woman with pseudoneurotic schizophrenia. Characteristic behavior patterns included fear of being attacked; depression; and repressed, impotent rage followed by withdrawal into fantasy. S's response of massive self-rejection included music, which she had studied and wanted to pursue but was totally unable to approach. As music-related events were uncovered in connection with repressed traumatic experiences, S's musical and expressive capabilities improved, as did her contact with reality. (9 ref)
