Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of music on the weight loss, crying and physical movement of newborns. Twenty-nine normal newborns were exposed to routine auditory stimulation, and thirty newborns were exposed to taped musical auditory stimulation. The musical stimulation consisted of approximately five minutes of recorded lullabies played twelve times daily at an average of every two hours. No significant difference was found between the two groups in terms of weight loss, percen- tage of babies crying, or percentage of babies moving their arms, legs, or head.
