Poetry: A therapeutic tool in the early stages of alcoholism treatment
Journal/Book: Journal of Studies on Alcohol. 1979; 40: 123-128.
Abstract: Examines the use of poetry as a therapeutic tool in the initial stages of alcoholism treatment. Poetry can be used in individual, group, or family therapy contexts. Like art, music, and psychodrama, poetry can be useful in breaking down defenses, facilitating group interaction, and stimulating self-discharge. Some methods for using poetry in alcoholism treatment are suggested, and case histories illustrating its use in a specific treatment program are given. (21 ref)
