The Relationship of Musical Structure and Verbal Interaction Process During Adult Music Group Therapy
Abstract: This study examined the effects of musical structure during music group therapy with two therapy groups composed of four members each over a six-week period. In Group One, the therapist applied maximal use of structured musical activities, while in Group Two, minimal structured activities were recorded using the Bales Interaction Analysis Profile. Verbal interaction decreased in the minimal structured group and increased in the maximal structured group. Trends and musical behaviors are discussed.
