Mozart's The Magic Flute : A paradigm for separation and initiation |
Journal/Book: International Review of Psycho Analysis. 1978; 5: 105-121.
Abstract: Reviews the libretto of Mozart's The Magic Flute and the often-discussed possibility that the plot was altered during its creation. The Masonic origin of the work is then considered, which leads to a review of some ancient mystery cults. Linkages are established between the initiation ceremonies of these cults, the rites of the Masons, and the plot of the opera, which is seen to be a camouflaged Masonic initiation. (30 ref)
