Abstract: Discusses the problems of the music therapist when music is proposed as a therapeutic technique with mentally retarded or developmentally disabled clients. Programing concepts, criteria for diversional programing, basic issues and assessment parameters, and other factors are examined. It is recommended that schools offering music therapy curricula include music therapy assessment theory and techniques and that diagnostic procedures be required in the training programs.
