Journal/Book: Journal of Music Therapy. 1977; 14: 190-197.
Abstract: Identifies the central problem of the elderly as the loss of independence and self-esteem and describes a program of music therapy at a geriatric home in Wisconsin that is designed to rebuild self-concept. The 380 residents range from those who are totally functional to those who need total care. The program is adapted to the capacities and needs of the individual patient. Specific methods are described by which music is used to improve the physical, mental, and social functioning of residents. (6 ref)
