Preventive art therapy: With a preschool child
Journal/Book: American Journal of Art Therapy. 1975; 14: 67-74.
Abstract: Discusses a preventive art therapy program for 150 normal children, 21/2-7 yrs old, at the National Child Research Center. A case example of a gifted 51/2-yr-old daughter of a separated couple is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of art therapy in recognizing and dealing with problems before they become acute. Several of the girl's pictures, and an interpretation of their significance with regard to her parent's separation, are included. Differences between art in the classroom and art in a therapeutic setting are noted.
