Community music therapy with adolescents |

Abstract: Describes a music project with 4 basic goals: (a) to recognize, modify, and reconstruct disturbed behavior patterns; (b) to improve adolescents' adjustment to school, community, church, domestic situations, and personal problems; (c) to alleviate shame, allow self-expression, and achieve verbal and nonverbal catharsis; (d) to teach communication skills and various strategies for survival-social, educational, and spiritual. Ss were 22 12-17 yr olds of mixed race and religious affiliation. Choral music led to related group activities; other results of the project during 21/2 yrs are also described.
