Abstract: Discusses the relationship between stress and mental disorders, pointing out the major theories of stress from that of H. Selye (1950) to the present. The connections between the biological reactions of the organism and mental stress agents, especially those caused by society, are analyzed. Stress is also discussed within a framework of psychosomatic medicine, and a theoretical and practical summary of music therapy and its use in dealing with stress-induced problems is presented.
