Abstract: By CLEMENT A. FINCH WITH THE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE OF BETTY LODEN From the Department of Medicine School of Medicine University of Washington Seattle Wash. Submitted for publication July 24 1958; accepted September 11 1958 * This investigation was supported by a research grant from the Atomic Energy Commission [Contract AT-(45-1)-218] and United States Public Health Service Grant No. H-2994. SUMMARY Red cell iron turnover as measured by the radioactivity of the circulating red cell iron over a four year period was found to represent 0.47 and 0.53 mg. per day in a group of 6 men and 12 nonmenstruating women. The amount of miscible tissue iron was identified by an exaggerated fall in the first year. This miscible pool is appreciably smaller than estimates of nonhemoglobin body iron. Iron turnover of total miscible body iron is calculated to be 0.61 mg. per day in men 0.64 mg. per day in nonmenstruating women and 1.22 mg. per day in menstruating women. ___MH
