[Drugs for young Mozart. Medical treatment of Wolfgang as a child by his father Leopold Mozart]

Leopold Mozart (1719-1787), father of Wolfgang AmadÃƒÂ©, had profound medical knowledge and was a passionate medical dilettante. As long as the young Mozart lived with his father and travelled on his concert tours with him, Leopold cared for his son in medical matters. Doctors were only consulted occasionally. In the extensive correspondence of Mozart's father drugs and treatments used for Wolfgang AmadÃƒÂ© are reported in detail. This represents a reliable description of the pharmacological therapies of the late 18th century. The mentioned drugs are, as far as possible, viewed from todays medical perspective.
