Metaphor and GIM

Abstract: "The purpose of this article is to describe the role of metaphors in Guided Imagery and Music (GIM). Our assumption is to consider that the human being's non-verbal knowledge is based on sensory and emotional memory and that the metaphorical process is fundamental to establish semantic connections necessary for understanding. Since musical and linguistic ways of intelligence are constructed by exploring and using the auditory system which treats sequential events in a temporal dimension, then metaphors could be constructed between these two areas presenting some communality. In this frame of reference, GIM is seen as a transformative therapy since by metaphorical process, developed in imagination and music experiences, allows the client to develop new existential meaning."
