Irritable bowel syndrome

Abstract: A critical and comprehensive review of the irritable bowel syndrome is given, regarding state of the art of theoretical models and empirical experience. We enter into the particulars of 1) Definition, Symptomatology and Diagnostics, 2) Epidemiology and Effects of Selection, 3) Empirical Experience of psychosocial aspects inclusive Comorbitity and Abuse, 4) Theoretical Models, and 5) Therapeutical Advance and Psychotherapeutical Possibilities. Implications to psychosomatic research and psychotherapeutical praxis are discussed.
