Abstract: The authors describe. Painting-therapy as an integrated parr of dynamic-psychiatric in-patient treatment. In their opinion, for the retrieval development of personality painting is of importance because it initiates contact by expressing the unconscious and because it strengthens the egodemarcation and the Integrative potential. In a case study the authors demonstrate as paintings can be seen as hints at the patient's unconscious and as a patient's development in painting therapy is woven into the whole therapeutic process, and they assign the paintings to different phases of creativity development. Painting-therapy as practised in the Dynamic Psychiatric Hospital Menterschwaige intends the patients becoming able for separation from symbiotic entanglement and for the development of identity.
