The medicalization of dying: A positive turn on a new path

Abstract: The science and technology of Western medicine in the twentieth century have expanded physician power to control the quality and timing of dying. Medicalization of dying is the result: a view of death and dying circumscribed by medical values, rules, accepted practices, and the controlling role of the physician. The new path represents a more holistic orientation in medical care of the dying.
