In a few of the elderly people, a suboptimal zinc supply has to be assumed. An ageusia, diagnosed in elderly people, which is an indication of a zinc deficiency, requires a zinc substitution. In the postoperative phase and in the case of a retarded recovery, a supply of essential quantitative and trace elements has turned out to be effective.
