An Auditory Neurophysiological Intervention Method in Patients with Migraine

Abstract: Despite reasonable progress in the treatment strategies against migraine, there is still a need for new treatment alternatives with fewer side effects than the pharmacological treatment. 'This study presents the first preliminary results of a pilot study with a new auditory intervention technique (Psychofonie®). 128 patients with migraine were treated. The duration of treatment was 4 weeks. In a self-rating scale 82% reported a positive therapeutic effect. In 28% of the patients the frequency and intensity of the attacks were reduced, which led to a reduction in the intake of medicine. 11% had no pain attack at all. These results are promising, and further investigations are necessary to evaluate the long-term effect of this complementary treatment.
