Considerations to the psychosomatics of Alzheimer's disease

Journal/Book: Dynam Psych. 1997; 30: Kantstrasse 120/121, D-10625 Berlin, Germany. Pinel-Verlag Fur Humanistische Psych Philos. 340-355.

Abstract: Concerning the clinical picture, patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease appear increasingly unable to refer their present experiences and feelings to former experiences. The illness ends in need of constant care and invalidity. Up to nom, somatic research for che reasons of Alzheimer's disease has not yet led to any sufficient results, and only little importance is attached to those observations that hint at a psychosomatic connection. Somatic research reveals Alzheimer's disease as a disconnection syndrome corresponding to an interruption of the projections tracts. Of all brain areas mainly the hippocampus is affected. The decrease of the synaptic density that can de seen in this supramodal association field might be caused by stress (Sapolsky 1996).
