The psychology of normal aging

Abstract: Health care professionals need to be aware of ''normal'' age-related changes in physiology, sensory abilities, sleep, personality, sexual functioning, and cognition as well as changes with ''normal'' grief in older persons. Many myths and misconceptions exist regarding normality. Although decline in some functions is associated with age, there is a great deal of heterogeneity in changes, with many elderly persons maintaining high levels of functioning into very advanced age.
