Immunstimulation und synergistischer Effekt mit Vesikeln aus Mistelextrakten

Abstract: In this article the immune system stimulation capacity of a mistletoe extract already used in cancer therapy is described. In addition to the known compounds of mistletoe, the extract contains vesicles consisting of genuine membrane systems, especially chloroplast membranes. The whole extract and the vesicles stimulated the CD4-positive T-helper cells of mistletoe-treated cancer patients to proliferate in vitro. The maximum proliferation of lymphocytes differed from donor to donor and was to be found at concentrations of between 0,5 µg/ml and 500 µg/ml mistletoe extract. The lymphocytes either did not proliferate at all in response to such different compounds of mistletoe as lectins, viscotoxins and polysaccharides or they proliferated to varying extents for different compounds and donors. Nevertheless, the lymphocytes of all tested donors were stimulated by the vesicles in a concentration range between 2,5 µg/ml and 10 µg/ml. The vesicle stimulation is an oligoclonal antigen-dependent stimulation.A lectin-vesicles mixture led to a synergistic effect with respect to proliferation of T-helper cells. The possible significance of T-helper cell stimulation beyond assisting in the formation of anti-mistletoe lectin antibodies is also discussed.
