Abstract: In August 1995 a prospective randomised treatment study on male infertility was started in the Department of Andrology of the University Hospital of Dermatology of Heidelberg in cooperation with the Department of Endocrinology of the University Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The study was designed to compare the effects of conventional treatment on the sperm count of male infertile patients with those of classical homoeopathic treatment. It was planned to treat 676 patients within a period of four years. As only 95 patients could be included in the first 14 months, the study was abandoned. The problems which occurred in the course of the study and the reasons why it proved to be impossible to conduct it in the initially planned form are discussed. Furthermore, a modified study design (multicentric, non-randomised) with a changed main response Parameter is shown.
