A Heideggerian approach to human understanding

Abstract: Assumptions about the nature of truth and the human experience condition the practice of psychology. This article is a discussion of the nature of physical light within the framework of modern physics and Heideggerian metaphysics in an attempt to show that truth is intrinsic to human experience, not an acquired tool or characteristic. An important ramification of this view is that psychological theories are doubly revealing. First, the content of theories provides us with models of human personality. Second, and more important, theory form or structure-the tendency toward generality, unity, and completeness-reflects our own psychological need for integrity and completeness. The claim is thus made that the question of truth incorporates questions of freedom and goodness.
