Medical use of Gingko biloba L.

Abstract: Besides the fact that Ginkgo biloba is a botanical curiosity, its medicinal use is of special interest. It represents a wellknown medicinal plant from traditional Chinese medicine, which has now been introduced into western medicine. 'Me chronology of its use has been traced back from today down to the early Chinese literature. While in TCM the seeds (»Baiguo") play the major role, in western medicine the leaves are exclusively used. Pharmacological studies of the leaf flavonoids in the 30s seem to be the reason of this shift.
