Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) as a Psychotherapeutic Method in Psychiatry

Abstract: "The effects of GIM were investigated in fourteen clients who were treated by therapists in advanced GIM training. The pre-post study investigated and measured psychiatric symptoms, interpersonal relationships and inner resources on the Hopkins Symptom Check List (HSCL-90) and the Inventory of Interpersonal Problems (IIP); results showed decreases in most symptoms, and a significant decrease in interpersonal problems. A significant increase in the experience of life as more meaningful and manageable was measured by the Sense of Cohesion (SC) scale. While the samll size and absence of control group warrant caution in the interpretations of the findings, the results of GIM treatment for psychiatric patients seem promising."
