Understanding Music Therapy Interaction through a Theoretical Description - a Discussion about Metadescription of Data

Abstract: In this paper I investigate intrapersonal dialogue. This dialogue concerns the assimilation of theoretical concepts and the forming of theoretical gestalts. This is important because, in the process of explaining music therapy processes to non-music therapists, the music therapy reality has to be translated from a specific music therapy language into a more general therapeutic language. This translation demands the ability to recognize general therapeutic concepts in the music therapy process. The concept of the theoretical gestalt provides this recognizability. When the music therapist has described the music therapy process in a music therapy context, the complementary analytical model presented here helps to identify the different parts of the theoretical gestalt. The gestalt concept is inspired by the German music therapists Rosemarie Tüpker and Manfred Kühn both representing the morphological music therapy tradition.

Arbejder p.t. som musikterapeut på Amtshospitalet Nykøbing S. i voksenpsykiatrisk regi. Har gennemført anden del af Guided Imagery in Music (GIM) uddannelsen. Er desuden uddannet sygeplejerske 1984, og har arbejdet som sådan både i det somatiske og det psykiatriske behandlingssystem.
