Training clinical supervisors in rehabilitation: A conceptual model for training doctoral-level supervisors

Abstract: A training program for doctoral students in a rehabilitation education program is described. Consideration is given to the integration of both theoretical and experiential content, both necessary in the education and training of clinical supervisors. This training program consists of two components. The first component is a supervision seminar that is both didactic and experiential. The second component emphasizes the doctoral students' supervision of master's-level rehabilitation counselors-in-training who are engaged in their first practicum experience. The value of this training approach for both neophyte and experienced clinical supervisors in rehabilitation is discussed.
