Abstract: Explored the effects of music therapy on developmental changes in developmentally delayed (DD) children by comparing 5 DD children (aged 4-6.5 yrs) who received 3 mo of music therapy with 3 DD children who served as waiting-list controls. Ss were evaluated with scales by R. Griffiths (1970 (1984)). The 6 subscales included Locomotor Development, Personal-Social, Hearing and Speech, Hand-Eye Coordination, Performance Tests, and Practical Reasoning; each subscale was designed to test a different avenue of learning with the intention of discovering true potentials in handicapped children. Two case vignettes are described to illustrate the quantitative and qualitative changes that occurred after the 3 mo of music therapy.
