In- vitro- Effekte von VISCUM ALBUM (L.)- Präparationen auf kultivierte Leukämie- Zellen und mononukleäre Zellen des peripheren Blutes

Abstract: We investigated the in vitro effects of Viscum album (L.) (VAL) onperipheral blood mononuclear cells of healthy individuals, on culturedleukemic T-ALL cells, B-CLL cells, and on cells of the T cell lineageJurkat. The addition of VAL preparations Helixorregistered trade mark Aor Helixorregistered trade mark M gave no blast transformation with aninduction of low affinity interleukin-2 receptor or transferrin receptorexpression on cultured T lymphocytes, as it is observed afterphytohemagglutinin stimulation. Also, no expression of these activationmarkers on the cell surface of the cultured leucemic cells was inducedby VAL. Moreover, the 3H-thymidine incorporation in the DNA of isolatedlymphocytes decreased with increasing concentrations of VAL fromdifferent host trees. The strongest cytostatic effects were observedusing VAL extracts from apple trees. The host tree specific cytostaticeffects correlated with the amount of mistletoe lectin II/III.
