Catharanthus roseus (L.) G. D0N - Madagascar-periwinkle

Abstract: Catharanthus roseus (L.) G. DON the Madagascar periwinkle is an actual medicinal plant because it biosynthesizes the oncolytics. History of the plant complements data concerning the medicinal use of the dimeric indol-indoline-alkaloids vinblastine, vincristine and the semisynthetic derivative vindesine in certain forms of lymphoma (VBL) and in leukemias of children (VCR). Further earlier investigations concerning the production of high-performance plants of Catharanthus roseus by means of cell- and tissue-culture or via homozygous di-haploid plants are described.
