Scrophulariaceen (Rachenblütler, Braunwurzgewächse)

Abstract: The family of the figworts (Scrophularia) which is interesting from the botanical point of view provides for the friend of gardens not only attractive and wonderful blooming plants, it is also important for the scientifically working biologist because of the form of its flowers and because of its genus Antirrhinum which is important for genetics. The genus Digitalis reminds the physician of a chapter of the history of therapy. Digitalis glycosides are still used successfully in the case of cardiac insufficiency. The Verbascum species (Mullein) provide valuable drugs for the treatment of bronchitis and are a component of various teas against colds. Eye-bright (Euphrasies), herb of grace (Gratiola) and the Veronica species are less known. All of them are valuable drugs for homeopathy.
