Abstract: Indications for the therapy with mineral substances in the case of disturbances of the carbohydrate metabolism as they are present in the form of a reduced glucose tolerance and diabetes mellitus, are the result of numerous animal experiments and clinical examinations.An improvement of the reduced glucose tolerance has been achieved with the administration of chromium and zinc. In most of the female patients with a diagnosed reactive hypoglycemia, it was possible to remedy this reduced glucose tolerance with the administration of chromium.Since a combined deficiency of potassium and magnesium is often present with diabetics, an indication for the prescription of electrolytes can be derived.A laboratory and a clinical diagnosis are a precondition for an effective treatment with mineral substances.
