Abstract: Since 1991 the Endocrinological Department of the Heidelberg University Women's Clinic has obtained good results in the treatment of women with menstrual disorders (amenorrhoea or oligomenorrhoea) through the application of homeopathic remedies. The homeopathic treatment of cyclic disorders is especially useful since conventional therapy-hormonal substitution and stimulation-is relatively expensive, time consuming, and can induce side effects. Furthermore. such a treatment is incapable of eliminating the cause of the underlying disorder. In 58% of all homeopathically treated patients a clear and sustained regulation of the menstrual cycle was achieved. Initially, a randomised placebo-controlled doubly-blind study was planned, but proved impossible to conduct; therefore, a prospective follow-up study has been pursued since April 95. The reasons leading up to the decision for this type of study and to the abandonment of the randomised placebo-controlled doubly-blind study are discussed.
