Electromagnetic Bioinformation - a Review

Abstract: Electromagnetic bioinformation is a synthesis of the two essential phenomena of life. At the one hand all reactions of the living organism are controlled by electromagnetic interaction, as all physiologic activities are based on it. It is also impossible to have sensory impressions of an environment without electromagnetic interaction. On the other hand an organism can only be fully understood as a system that is open, and linked via complex and self-referential networks. Open systems far from thermodynamic equilibrium have the ability to react on a changing environment; they are adaptive systems. The more complex a system is, the more links are established by the dissipative structures, the more flexible and dynamic is the system. The openness of a system is manifestes via electromagnetic coupling. Naturally, organisms are very sensible to electromagnetic interactions and have evolved to use electromagnetic signals for information Transport. Organisms have appearently the ability to emit characteristic light, and to use this light as characteristic bioinformation. Many phenomena such as light emission during phagocytosis of leucocytes and the medical use of light therapy or laser puncture can be understood only under this aspect. Thus, the view of electromagnetic bioinformation opens a new scientific access to many areas in biology and medicine, which could lead to new medical techniques, especially in therapy and diagnosis.
