Abstract: Conventional therapy using specific antiphlogistic agents and glucocorticoids as well as, in some instances, immunosupppressive agents is frequently not sufficient for this intermittent condition of the gastrointestinal tract. Acupuncture therapy was given prior to the administration of medication, the aim being to strengthen the body's own ability to regulate and modulate its immune system and thus improve its response to the medication. The humoral-endocrine effects of acupuncture via the neurotransmitter systems with endorphins, enkkephalins and serotonin etc. are of importance in this context. Decoderdermographic measurements were undertaken prior to the onset of, and after the 5th and 10th therapy. The effects of the treatment procedure were documented by the patients' daily records on the frequency and consistency of their bowel motions. Most of the patients showed improvements in their condition.
