Guided imagery and music in process: The interweaving of the archetype of the mother, mandala, and music

Abstract: Explored the role of music, the archetype of mother, and the Mandala Assessment Research Instrument Mandala schema in the life of 5 women. These women were undergoing Guided Imagery and Music therapy to make their lives more integrated and individualized. Each of the 3 forms (the archetype, Mandala, and music) allowed creative access to a world linked to every other person. It also led to gaining of strength from inherent creative forces. Mother is one of the most powerful forces which is associated with trust bonding and nurturance and may help to meet a number of challenges in life. The power of image, symbol, fairy tale, myth, archetype, Mandala, and music allows identification of the destructive and transformational guises which "the mother" may take. The acceptance of this archetype led the 5 women to healing of personal inner wounds and helping others to explore and heal theirs.
